Sports Themed Room Ideas That Will Hit a Home Run

House

30 May

Did you know that spending on home upgrades jumped by 3% recently? With that in mind, you shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to invest in changing up your den or basement. And if you’re a sports fanatic, you can put a creative spin on your design scheme that reflects your favorite team or sport.

Read on to learn about sports themed room ideas that will hit a home run!

Let Your Favorite Team Inspire the Colors

If you don’t want to be overt with a sports theme, you can incorporate colors and textures inspired by your favorite sports. In other words, you don’t need to brand every piece of furniture in your room with a sports team logo. You can take a more understated approach.

For instance, if you love tennis, consider creating a room with variations on the color green as the dominant theme. Lime green walls will add a cheery atmosphere, while deeper green hues can allude to the court. Add some decorative baskets or woven elements to evoke the tennis racket, and touches of white.

Or, for a team-specific look, let your Packers pride show through with green and yellow. Redo your family room with deep green walls and bright yellow curtains. And you might even want to introduce a throw rug that mimics field turf!

Line Your Walls with Framed Jerseys

What better way to announce your love of sports than with framed jerseys? Even if you don’t have signed jerseys from sports stars, you can still make a compelling display.

For example, you can get jerseys mimicking the style of your favorite 1984 Detroit Tigers team. Ask your local framer to insert them into classy black frames, and then line your room with them. Add a few carefully placed recessed lights to spotlight them when you’re in the space.

Get these throwback jerseys to help relive your favorite sports moments. You can celebrate a specific player, like Ken Griffey Jr., or highlight any MLB team you’ve been following since childhood.

Get Vintage Sports Banners

Hanging vintage sports banners is a classy and easy way to bring some sports vibes into your home decor. If you have a designated office space at home, consider hanging a few banners on the wall above your workstation. You’ll always have a welcome reminder that you’ll get to clock out and watch some sports soon!

Or, in a bedroom, devote an entire wall to hanging pennants. For a rabid football fan, get one for every team in the NFL. Introduce an NFL-inspired bedspread, too, and you’ll have created a memorable space.

Use Wall Decals

Wall decals are a dynamic — and removable — way to introduce some sports-themed flair into your space. They’re a great option for a child’s bedroom. After all, your young son might love soccer one week and basketball the next!

Choose lifesize decals of sports stars like Lionel Messi or Steph Curry to add impact to any wall. Get NASCAR decals commemorating your favorite cars or drivers.

Or you can personalize a decal with your child’s name surrounded by hockey sticks or baseball stitching. Put the decals on a white wall for a sharp contrast, or use a base color that relates to your chosen team.

Go with Sport Theme Accents

Throw pillows, accent rugs, and lamps are all smaller spaces where you can show off your love of sports. Get an area rug emblazoned with the log of your favorite NFL team. Toss a few matching coasters on your end tables and you’ll be all set.

You can even repurpose old lamps and decorative objects to create some design flourishes on a budget. Take an old ceramic lamp or planter and paint your team’s logo on it. Get napkins and placements in your favorite team’s colors that you can use during your next tailgate party.

Display Your Best Sports Memorabilia

If you’ve had the good fortune of getting a baseball autographed, show it off! Make your basement rec room into a mini-museum where you can admire your sports memorabilia. Plus you’ll have an instant talking point when you invite people over.

Get glass cases to display signed baseballs and place them on your built-in bookcases. Place a baseball bat above your mantle, or use hooks to hang autographed hockey sticks!

Create Original Sports Art

Do you have a knack for creating art? Or at the very least, do you have the ability to trace around a stencil? Then you might be able to create your own art to adorn a sports themed room!

You can purchase canvases at a craft store, as well as acrylic paints and brushes. You also could go to a secondhand store and buy donated paintings that you can block out with primer and repaint.

As one approach, paint sharp images of baseballs, footballs, or soccer balls against flat background colors for a Pop Art-inspired look. If you’re not confident you can freehand it, create some stencils and simplify the imagery.

Or use a photo editing program to modify images from games you’ve attended or played in. For example, apply a filter to posterize an image of your daughter kicking a soccer ball. Print it out, splash some paint on it, and frame it in white for a modern and personalized work of art.

Pursue Sports Themed Room Ideas

When you start digging into sports themed room ideas, you’ll see that the options range from subtle to high-impact. Let the color scheme drive your sports theme, or create a retro look with vintage banners and jerseys. For a bold style, introduce decals or original art that shows off your love of the game.
